Fibromyalgia tests

Is there a test to make a diagnosis of fibromyalgia?

First, the facts. Fibromyalgia is a difficult disorder to diagnose. It often presents with pain and other vague symptoms. It is often mistaken for depression, PMS or whatever. In fact, some older conventional doctors do not even believe the disorder exists. The diagnosis is made clinically and often there is a long lag time before a firm diagnosis is made. At present, the disorder has no test that can reliably make a diagnosis. All the tests that doctors offer for fibromyalgia are bogus and fraudulent. Measuring levels of certain hormones and cytokines is a bunch of CRAP.

If you think you have fibromyalgia, go and see a decent rheumatologist. If he/she orders tests to make diagnosis for fibromyalgia, dump him. The diagnosis is made based on your history and physical exam. A simple questionnaire offered by a reputable MD is enough to make the diagnosis.

Too many doctors are ripping patients off with bogus tests-so beware. Some of these tests run into thousands of dollars.
