Pilonidal abscess

I have a pilonidal abscess and am wondering if there is anything besides surgery for this disorder?
Well, you may try antibiotics but they usually do not work for large lesions. Your surgeon may try and aspirate the abscess, but chances of recurrence are very high. Surgery is usually done for this disorder, but I can tell you right now, the results are abysmal.
The majority of patient are left with severe pain and scars. Most patients are dissatisfied with surgery and I agree with them. My best advice is try sitz baths at home, use painkillers and antibiotics. Shave off all the hair from the anal and rectal area. Lose weight and hopefully you may not need to see a surgeon. If you do, rest assured, it will not be painless.
